At our factory SULPHURED ,NATURAL and  ORGANIC DRIED APRICOTS are processed.

Sulphured Apricots; are treated with SO 2 in order to provide colour retention and longer the shelf life .The colour of this type changes from light yellow to orange.

Drying process begins by reaping of fresh and ripe fruits from the trees into the cases and continues with sulphur dioxide cure for 2 or 3 days, then dried under the sun, semi-dried fruits are pitted by hand.

The SO2 content is max 2000 ppm for European countries and between 2500-3000 for USA and others.
Also if the buyer needs a special content iit can be adjusted as well.The colour is lighter as the SO2 content increases.

In Turkish Standards- TS 485, all the class and size details can be found. The two important quality criteria of dried apricots with regard to this standard are, moisture and SO2 contents, which should not exceed 25 % and 0,25 % (2500ppm) by weight respectively.The variety of Turkish sun dried apricots is Prunus armeniaca L. And called as "Şekerpare" . The origin of this fruit is Malatya which is in Eastern Anatolia Region. Drying process begins by reaping of fresh and ripe fruits from the trees into the cases and continues with sulphur dioxide cure for 2 or 3 days, then dried under the sun, semi-dried fruits are pitted by hand.

In our plant, all apricots are mechanically washed, dried in oven to reach the optimum moisture content, and inspected on the lighted belt and tables to remove any foreign material and defects.

Whole pitted apricots are packed into cartons and metal detected for final check. The apricots contain no other additives. This process takes place under the highest standards of hygiene and good manufacturing practices

 Natural (Unsulphured) Apricots; differs from sulphured apricots in colour ,the colur of this type changes from light brown to dark brown this is because these apricots are directly dried under the sunlight without being trated with SO2.

 

 Organic Apricots:are grown by certified growers according to the standards of the
Organic Agriculture and under the control of our certification body.These apricots are growned naturally without being treated with any chemicals at the orchards.Strict controls are done regularly by the inspectors of certification body  ,the leave,soil and water analysis on apricots orchards are done to check if any chemical is used.Organic apricots are grown and processed under the control of the organic certification body and these apricots contains no chemicals as well as no sulphur.

 

 

There are two groups, natural and sulphured and four quality classes, extra, first, second and industrial classes. In Turkish Standards, the two important quality criteria of dried apricots are, moisture and SO2 contents, which should not exceed 25 % and 0,20 % (2000ppm) by weight respectively.

 

The apricots are divided into two groups according to their drying style:

The characteristic, which makes it world wide famous, is the dry material content. While the dry material content of Malatya apricots, vary between 24 % and 30 %, the maximum dry material content of other varieties was observed at only 20 %.
